Purple, bubbled, peeling or too-dark film removed without damaging your rear defroster, adhesive cleaned to bare glass, and new warrantied film installed in the same visit if you want it.
Cheap dyed film breaks down under UV. The dye fades to purple, the adhesive lets go and the film bubbles or peels. At that point it is not blocking heat, it is just ugly. Removing it and installing film with a real warranty is the fix. More on this in bubbles, purple tint and peeling.
A car bought out of state, or tinted by a shop that did not ask, often has 20% or 5% film on windows Maryland requires to be 35%. That fails inspection and draws a repair order from police. We remove the dark film and can install a legal shade the same day.
Seams on the rear window, gaps at the edges, dirt under the film, film cut on the glass with a razor. Bad installs do not get better. The honest fix is to strip it and start over on clean glass.
Dealers, lease returns and private sales sometimes need the glass back to factory. We can remove film from any or all windows and leave no residue.
Removal is quoted by phone because the condition of the old film changes the time dramatically. Film that is simply too dark peels in sheets. Film that has baked for ten years comes off in flakes and can take an hour per window.
It depends on how many windows and how badly the old film has degraded. Purple, brittle film that comes off in flakes takes far longer than film that is simply too dark. Call with the vehicle and we will quote it, and we will tell you the price for new film at the same time.
You can, but the rear window is the problem. The defroster lines are printed on the glass and a razor blade or the wrong solvent lifts them off. Once a line is broken, that part of the defroster is dead. We steam the film off and use adhesive remover that is safe on the grid.
Not when we are done. Adhesive residue is the second half of the job, and it is the part most DIY attempts give up on. The glass is cleaned to bare, then prepped for new film if you are replacing it.
No. Some customers remove tint to pass inspection or sell the car and stop there. Most replace it, and removal plus new film in one visit is cheaper than two separate appointments.
Usually within a day or two. Call, tell us it is a repair order, and we will get you into the first open bay. We can install a legal 35% shade in the same visit so you leave compliant.
